We do sell some eBikes with a throttle now, and we expect to carry more. For years we only sold Bosch pedal-assist bikes, and here’s why that’s still a big part of what we sell:
In all the years Propel has been in business, Bosch eBike Systems has set the standard we hold ourselves to for quality, safety and support. A throttle eBike isn’t a bad choice, and it’s a great way to get out and about. We just need to be able to stand behind every eBike we sell for the long run, which is why we only add a bike, throttle or not, once we know we can support it.
UL safety testing is now the law in New York City. Local Law 39 prohibits selling eBikes that aren’t certified to UL 2849, the whole-system standard covering the battery, motor and charger together, and Bosch was putting its systems through that testing voluntarily before it was required. Whatever system a bike uses, it has to meet that standard before we sell it.
