Ordering ABUS Keyed-Alike Locks
If you are buying an electric-assist bike, you already know that it is an investment! And one that you most likely want to protect.
We have other content that will help you learn about various locks. You can think through the particular scenarios in which you may need to lock up your bike and determine which locks will work best for you.
Who is ABUS? What is “Keyed Alike”?
ABUS is a German lock company. Propel sells ABUS locks exclusively, because of the excellent quality and many options that work well for e-bikes. An additional compelling feature is an option to have multiple ABUS locks which share the same key. Locks that share the same key are said to be “keyed alike.”
If you are curious about keyed-alike locks, how they work, and whether they might be useful for you, read on.
It starts with your battery lock.
All electric pedal-assist bikes come with a battery that is locked inside of (InTube, “IT”) or onto (DownTube, “DT”) the frame. This makes the batteries hard to steal, but removable if you should want to charge them off the bike.
The key for your battery lock has a unique “key code.” You will be given this code on the tags that come with the key. Keep it! You can always get a replacement key, or an additional key, and/or additional locks that share this code.
One key for all your locks.
The German company ABUS makes many of the locks used with e-bike batteries. If your bike’s battery has an ABUS lock, you can order additional locks that use the same key code as your battery lock. If your bike doesn’t have an ABUS battery lock, you may be able to switch it out for an ABUS version.
Then, you can order additional locks that all use the same key, making it quite convenient when it comes time to lock or unlock your bike. This is what is meant by “keyed-alike” locks.
Many Propel customers have even made two bikes “keyed alike” to each other! We will discuss how to do this on a bike-by-bike basis below.
Propel can help you order these additional locks, and you can also do it yourself here. These locks are custom-made in Germany, so usually you will receive them about a month after ordering.
There are some instances in which an ABUS battery lock is of a type that cannot be keyed alike to other locks. If your bike is one of these, there are still options–including replacing the battery lock (or locks) or simply ordering additional locks keyed alike and carrying one additional key. We discuss below on a bike-by-bike basis.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Riese & Müller Bikes.
Homage, Delite, Delite Mountain, Superdelite, Superdelite Mountain
These full-suspension bikes come with an XPlus battery key, and a keyed-alike 90cm ABUS Bordo XPlus folding lock.
You can order additional locks that will also use the same key code. This code can be found in your bike information, and/or on the card that came with the keys. It will be seven digits; an X followed by six numbers.
For additional locks, Propel would recommend a chain such as the ABUS Granit 1060 XPlus chain lock, or a U-lock such as the ABUS Granit XPlus 540 9” U-lock.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
If you want your bike to share the same key code as another bike, one of them will need to get the battery lock replaced. Choose BLO BOS IT2 XPlus.
Nevo, Charger/Charger Mixte, Supercharger, Multicharger/Multicharger Mixte (System 2), Load 60/75 MY 2023+
These front-suspension bikes come with a frame lock (also known as a wheel lock or café lock) that is keyed alike to the battery lock.
Frame locks are very convenient if you are not locking up for long. You can also quickly add more security with an ACH Adapter chain, which plugs into the frame lock and does not require an additional key.
For additional security, Propel recommends using an additional ABUS folding lock, U-lock, or chain lock, all of which can be keyed alike to your battery and frame lock. Which you choose will depend on your personal preferences and security needs.
Check your bike information, and the card that came with your keys, to see whether your bike has an XPlus lock (code will be X followed by six digits) or a Plus lock (code is only six digits). Choose additional locks that are compatible (XPlus for XPlus; Plus for Plus) and enter the code from your original keys.
If you want your bike to share the same key code as another bike, one of them will need to get the battery lock replaced. If your battery has a Plus lock and an internal battery, you will need the BLO BOS IT2.1 Plus. If your battery has the XPlus lock, you will need to order the BLO BOS IT2 XPlus for the second bike. You can order yourself here, or have Propel order for you.
If your Nevo has a rack-mounted (RT type) battery as well, you would need to order a Bosch GT Plus Rack, or BLO BOS RT2 XPlus.
If you have a Load, you need a BLO BOS DT2!
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Nevo4, Charger/Charger Mixte4, Multicharger/Multicharger Mixte 750, Load 4 60/75, Transporter2 65/85, Packster 70, Tinker2, Multitinker
These Bosch Smart System and other MY 2023 new-edition bikes come with an ABUS XPlus battery lock that is keyed alike to an XPlus frame lock (also known as a wheel lock or café lock).
Frame locks are very convenient if you are not locking up for long. You can also quickly add more security with an ACH Adapter chain, which plugs into the frame lock and does not require an additional key.
For even more security, Propel recommends using an additional folding lock, U-lock, or chain lock, all of which can be keyed alike to your battery and frame lock. Which you choose will depend on your personal preferences and security needs.
ABUS makes versions of each that can be keyed alike with the same code as your battery and frame lock. Check your bike information and the card that came with your key, for the code. Choose additional XPlus locks and enter the code from your original keys.
If you want your bike to share the same key code as another bike, one of them will need to get the battery lock replaced. Order the BLO BOS IT3 XPlus (only for *new* Bosch PowerTube 750 Smart System batteries) for the second bike here.
If it also needs a new frame lock, you will need to order the ABUS XPlus Shield 5755L.
If your Nevo4 has a rack-mounted battery as well, and you want to switch it out, you would need to order the BLO BOS RT2 XPlus.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Load 60/75 MY 2021 and earlier, Tinker
The battery locks on pre-2023 Load cargo bikes and the original Tinker compact bikes use a different key model. These bikes have frame locks that are keyed alike to the battery locks, but additional locks cannot be keyed alike.
If you are looking to purchase additional locks and are interested in a keyed-alike option, you have a choice to make:
Choice 1): Replace the lock on the battery, and get a new frame lock. This is something that Propel or another dealer will be happy to assist with. If you make this choice, you are then able to order as many other keyed-alike locks as you like, and you will only ever need one key.
ABUS offers a package that includes both a frame lock and a battery lock. To order this from the Propel keyed-alike drop-down menu, select A1829840-5750L-NR BK lose BLO BOS DT2 Plus.
Choice 2) Order additional locks keyed alike to each other and carry two keys. Still pretty convenient!
Propel recommends an additional folding lock, U-lock, or chain lock. Which you choose will depend on your personal preferences and situation.
ABUS makes versions of each that can be keyed alike so that you can order additional locks with the same key code at the same time, or at any time later.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Roadster/Roadster Mixte
For Roadsters and Roadster Mixtes, look at the key number assigned to your bike from Riese & Müller. Most have XPlus battery locks; some have frame locks and some do not.
To order additional locks yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Tern Bikes
Tern HSDs, GSDs, and NBDs
HSDs, GSDs, and NBDs come with ABUS keyed-alike battery locks and frame locks. The type of key used for these locks (called a T82, if you’re curious) cannot be keyed alike to additional ABUS locks per se. There are options, though:
Choice 1): Replace the lock on the battery, and get a new frame lock. This is something that Propel or another dealer will be happy to assist with. If you make this choice, you are then able to order as many other keyed-alike locks as you like, and you will only ever need one key.
ABUS offers a package that includes both a Plus frame lock and a battery lock. To order this from the keyed-alike drop-down menu, select A1829840-5750L-NR BK lose BLO BOS DT2 Plus.
If you want the latest in security, the XPlus locks, you can order them individually. The battery lock is 64290 BLO BOS DT2 XPlus, and the frame lock is the 5755L NR BK OE Shield XPlus.
Choice 2) Order your additional locks keyed alike to each other and carry two keys. Still pretty convenient!
For a GSD, we recommend getting a long chain, like the ABUS Granit City Plus 1010 140cm if you are going with Plus locks, or the ABUS Granit City XPlus 1060 140cm, if you prefer the XPlus. It will give you the most flexibility as to where and how you lock.
For an HSD or NBD, a medium-length chain like a 110cm Granit City will work–either Plus or XPlus.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Vektron, Quick Haul
The Vektron and Quick Haul have only a battery lock (made by Trelock, if you’re curious), which would need to be replaced with an ABUS BLO BOS DT2 Plus or BLO BOS DT2 XPlus to be keyed alike with other ABUS locks.
If you choose to do this, you can order any other keyed alike eligible ABUS lock as well, and have it made custom, using the same key code as the battery lock.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Gazelle Bikes
Gazelles come with battery locks and frame locks made by AXA, which are keyed-alike to each other. But because they are not made by ABUS, they cannot be keyed alike with other locks. That said, you can replace them!
If you have added a second battery, you must also order a second battery lock. You will need to choose whether you want Plus or XPlus locks. The frame lock is 5750L-NR BK for Plus Key and 5755L-NR for XPlus Key.
Gazelles have an internal Bosch Powertube battery, so you will need to order the BLO BOS IT2.1 Plus or the BLO BOS IT2 XPlus.
The second battery lock, for an external Bosch Powerpack battery, is the BLO BOS DT2 (Plus or Xplus to match the originally upgraded battery lock).
You can order additional locks at the same time, share the same key number, or at any time afterward.
To order yourself, go to the keyed-alike ordering page on the Propel website. If you would like help, email hello@propelbikes.com, or call 646-736-7716.
Benno Bikes
Bennos–Boosts, E-Joys, and RemiDemis–come with an ABUS T82 battery lock that is not keyed-alike compatible. However, you can replace it. You may especially want to do this if you choose to add a second battery.
You can decide what level of security you would like: Plus, or XPlus.
For Plus locks, you would order a BLO BOS DT2 Plus for each battery.
For XPlus locks, order a BLO BOS DT2.1 XPlus.
You can order additional locks at the same time, share the same key number, or at any time afterward.
Only E-Joys and E-Scouts come with keyed-alike ABUS battery locks and frame locks. These T82 sets cannot be keyed alike to additional ABUS locks per se.
ABUS makes folding locks, U-locks, and chain locks that can be keyed alike to Plus or XPlus locks. Which you choose will depend on your personal preferences and security needs.

Urban Arrow Family
Before MY 2022, Urban Arrows used T82 keyed-alike battery locks and frame locks. This manufacturer-only set cannot be keyed alike to additional locks. There are options, though:
Choice 1): Replace the lock on the battery, and get a new frame lock. This is something that Propel or another dealer will be happy to assist with. If you make this choice, you are then able to order as many other “Plus” keyed-alike locks as you like, and you will only ever need one key.
ABUS offers a package that includes both a frame lock and a battery lock.
For an Urban Arrow, we recommend getting a long chain–a 140cm Granit City–either Plus or XPlus. It will give you the most flexibility as to where and how you lock.
Starting with MY 2022, Urban Arrows use ABUS XPlus battery locks and frame locks, which can be keyed alike with any other XPlus locks.
We recommend a long chain, such as the ABUS Granit City XPlus 1060 140cm.
