Tire Size Guide

There are a few reasons someone would want or need to know how big and wide the tires on their bike are;

Current tires are worn down and it’s time for a fresh set
Want to upgrade to a higher quality tire
Maybe you want a narrower tire
Or a wider tire
Looking for more tread?
Or less tread?
Some people are dedicated to certain brands. If the bike you bought doesn’t come with your favorite brand you might need to purchase a set.

There is usually about a 0.25” – 0.5” width range from tires that come stock on a bike to go wider or narrower. The amount of wiggle room would be based on the stocked rims, the space between the fork legs, and the positioning of a certain bike fender (if equipped).

Fenders can sometimes get in the way of tires with larger treads (off-roading tires) if the clearance is set up for street or road tires.

Some people might wonder why anyone would want to change the width in the first place. For the most part, if someone is making the decision to go with a different width, they usually go wider because a wider tire makes more contact with the ground which can help maintain balance. Wider tires require less air pressure (psi) compared to thinner tires- lower psi allows tires to absorb some of the bumps in the road, which helps make your ride a bit more comfortable.
