If you treat your Bosch battery well, it will continue to work efficiently as time goes on. Here are five tips on how to take care of your eBike battery so it will continue to perform efficiently over time. Of course, please always consult your manual or an experienced technician first if you have any questions or concerns.
1. Unplug your battery when it’s fully charged
Your eBike battery shouldn’t be charged more than it needs to be and should be unplugged soon after it’s fully charged. If you’re charging your batteries on the bike, make sure your eBike is off and not charging before you remove a battery.
2. Only use the charger that came with your system
Third-party chargers can shorten battery life and cause system problems, and Bosch chargers aren’t cross-compatible across system generations, so stick with your bike’s own Bosch charger. The standard 4A charger takes about 4.5 hours to fully charge a 625 Wh battery.
3. Charge indoors, at room temperature
Bosch specs charging between 32°F and 104°F (0 to 40°C). If your battery has been out in the cold, bring it inside and let it warm up before it goes on the charger. Never charge a frozen battery.
4. Store it about half-charged for long breaks
If you won’t ride for a while, keep the battery indoors at around room temperature and roughly half-charged. When the bike parks outside or somewhere unheated, bring the battery in and click it back on just before you ride.
5. For DualBattery eBikes, don't charge your batteries with one of them removed from the bike
When you’re charging your batteries on the bike, make sure both of them are, you guessed it, on the bike. Additionally, do not remove a battery while your system is charging, or when the system is on and not charging. Your eBike needs to be off and not charging before you remove a battery.
